High Tide: A Surf Odyssey
by Chris Burkard
The ocean can be easily calm or quickly intense. And to photograph within the movement, the swells and ever changing movement is an art form itself. Enter Chris Burkhard, a self-taught photographer and artist, based in Central Coast California. It makes sense he is the Senior Staff Photographer for Surfer Magazine and contributes regularly to numerous international publications while also a project photographer for Patagonia.
This book, 256 pages deep, documents the modern cult of surfing as its own subculture and way of life. He terms it as a “photographic homage to surfing in extreme conditions”. He captures incredible cold-water surfing, the most remote surf spots from Hawaii, Norway, South Korea, and to India.
Not only does is cover surfing and these immense locations, but captures the people, stories, and brands. This community of surfing is made up of the surfers themselves, photographers and board builders who are also spreading its distinctive spirit into other creative fields. Immerse yourself in Chris’s photography and then grab a board yourself to experience it….
